I think here is not a bad spot but try to get a lift to at least Tver or a gas station far from Moscow where you can catch some truck doing long distance. Maybe it's even better to take a train that goes far away from the city to start HH, incredible amount of local traffic. I did the mistake to accept a ride from a actually good guy, Vladimir, but I lost almost 2-3 hours with him because I thought he was going to Saint Petersburg and he invited me, showed me around etc. He dropped me in a empty gas station where most of people again were locals.

good place to go to saint petersburg, i get a ride in 20min. and it was allmost night you can get there from pskov with the bus number 4 or 4a, it will let you on leningradskoe shosse with krestovskoe shosse, then you have to walk by the leningradskoe shosse to the north like 10 or 15 min
